Our 4 Step Treatment Plan

Complete a sleep apnea screener

We always start with a sleep screener. This is a series of questions designed to assess your risk of having an airway issue and whether or not you should seek treatment. These questions can be answered in your own home at your convenience.

Take a sleep test

If the screener confirms the presence of having a high probability of some form of sleep disordered breathing (SDB), like sleep apnea, we will want to administer a home sleep test. With advances in sleep study technology, you no longer have to go to a sleep lab in order to be tested. We offer tests you use right in your own home. The sleep tests are small, comfortable and easy to use.  The test will monitor all of your sleep patterns and will determine if you have sleep apnea.  We will also use your test to create a custom treatment plan for you.

Review your sleep test results

We create a custom oral appliance for you to wear while you sleep. Oral appliance therapy uses a specially designed device that positions the jaw forward, helping to keep the tongue away from your airway, creating more space in your mouth and throat. By positioning the tongue in this manner, more stability is provided to the soft tissues in the back of your throat, which helps keep the airway from collapsing while you sleep. The device is custom-made to your mouth and adjusted over time to get the best results. Due to the ease of use with an oral appliance, we find patients are more compliant with this treatment on a nightly basis. While a CPAP is effective in treating sleep apnea and is considered the gold standard, many patients do not tolerate it well, making an oral appliance a functional alternative.

Sleep Well!

Once your symptoms have started to subside and you are feeling like you’re sleeping and feeling better, we will administer another sleep test to determine the effectiveness of the oral appliance.
